Artist's Narrative

Svetlana Iskhakov started dancing at the age of 9. She received extensive training in ballroom dance and ballet in the leading studios of Moscow. She has won numerous awards in Russia and the US.
Svetlana performs and coaches extensively both nationally and worldwide. She has represented the US at competitions in England, Finland, Japan, Russia and Canada and around the United States. She is also featured in the Hollywood film
Dance With Me staring Vanessa Williams. Svetlana is actively involved in teaching and popularizing the art of ballroom and dancesport. She is the director and the owner of the Columbus Dance Centre, a spacious state of the art dance studio bringing together all forms of dance, as well as the director of the Columbus Dancesport Academy for training children dedicated to becoming future dance champions. Svetlana also works extensively with college students as an official coach of the Ohio State University and Kenyon College Ballroom Teams, as well as regular adjudicator for the collegiate dancesport competitions.
In addition to the competitive dancesport career Svetlana received BFA in dance from the Dance Department of the Ohio State University in 2001. She also previously studied for two years at the Dance Department of the Moscow University of Culture, studying dance technique (ballet, modern dance, jazz, ballroom, folk, etc.), dance composition, notation, stage production, lighting design, dance dynamics, contact improvisation and history of dance, as well as supplementary movement disciplines as yoga, pilates, Alexander Technique etc.
