Seona McDowell was born in India of English/ Irish parents. She grew up on a farm in New Zealand and later moved to Australia where she began performing. Seona won the OZ music award for Best Australian Folksinger two years in a row, toured with such stars as Roy Orbison and Don McClean, and had a program on Australian history in the schools for many years. She is now in America where she has been with the Ohio, Florida, and Maryland Arts Councils, and is performing constantly throughout most of the United States. The Maryland Arts Council put her through the Teaching Arts Institute program and in the summer of 2008 she instructed 100 teachers in arts intigration for the Marlyand Arts Teaching Institute.
