Artist's Narrative

Nick Baldasare is a professional actor who has been performing Shakespeare for over 15 years.  He has also toured with Cincinnati's Artreach Touring Theatre, performing original productions at area schools. His film credits include appearances in the movies Teachers and Brubaker as well as leading roles in several independent video releases. Nick's script, Horatio's Hamlet,  was recently adapted into a film co-produced by Bowling Green State University and is currently playing the festival circuit. Other work involves coordinating productions for The Can-Do Players, a troupe of mentally challenged individuals who entertain at facilities for the handicapped. Most recently Nick has been writing and performing monologues based on classic works of literature. His touring credits include: The Ohio State University, Roscoe Village, correctional facilities, and numerous schools throughout the midwest. His goal is to entertain and enlighten while sharing the beauty of the language of Shakespeare.

Espresso Shakespeare (Grade levels 4-12)

A double shot of Shakespeare featuring back-to-back stagings of "Macbeth" and "Taming of the Shrew." A special 2 for 1 performance that's frothy, caffeinated and a "latte" fun.

Horatio's Hamlet (Grade levels 7-12)
A 30-minute one-man adaptation of Shakespeare's greatest play, "Hamlet." In this production, Horatio, Hamlet's one true friend, relates the story of the fallen prince through the Bard's monologues and poetry written by the artist. A 15-minute discussion of the play follows.

Julius Caesar (Grade levels 4-12)
A 30-minute adaptation of Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar." In this one-man production, the character of the Soothsayer tells the classic story of the assassination of Julius Caesar and its tragic aftermath. Through original poetry and Shakespeare's text, a timeless tale of power and intrigue is woven. A 15-minute discussion of the play follows.

Macbeth (Grade levels 4-12)
A 30-minute performance of Shakespeare's "Tragedy of Macbeth" using much of the Bard's dark poetry and key monologues. Told in the style of a classic radio drama, students will be encouraged to become involved in the play by participating in script reading and sound effect production.

An Appalachian "Taming of the Shrew" (Grade levels 4-12)
This 20-minute adaptation of one of Shakespeare's most beloved comedies is set in Paduca Kentucky and features Petruchio - a gentleman from the city looking to wed and Kate - a headstrong "shrew" ready for battle.  Using a lifesize doll and imaginative props and costumes, watch as one man attempts this outrageous retelling of the Bard's famous "battle of the sexes." Includes Q&A with Nick following the performance.

Edgar Allen Poe: The Raven and the Heart (Grade levels 7-12)
This performance features dramatic renderings of Poe's most famous works along with insights into the author's brief, troubled life. "The Raven" and "The Tell-Tale Heart" are two of Poe's most enduring creations. Watching these classics performed live offers audiences an exciting introduction to one of America's most compelling writers.
