Cheong-ah Hwang

Cheong-ah Hwang came to the U.S. in the early ’90s from Seoul, Korea, and has been living in Columbus since 1997. She attended The Ohio State University, studying an undergraduate program in fine art. Her love for paper material led her to make things like paper models ever since her childhood. Now, she mainly makes paper relief sculptures. She’s fascinated with putting 2D and 3D elements together—creating three-dimensional illusion in less than an inch of depth. Hwang’s works have been shown throughout Columbus, including the show Made in Ohio: Diverse Sources at the Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery in 2005. She now runs an online shop featuring her art, and she also works as a freelance artist for ad agencies and publishers. Her art is often photographed and used for book covers or advertising illustrations. Hwang is also an author of a how-to book, Creative Paper Cutting: 15 Paper Sculptures to Inspire and Delight published by GMC Publications (UK).
