COLUMBUS, Ohio — Applications are now open for the 2021 Visual Arts Fellowship, a partnership between the Greater Columbus Arts Council (Arts Council) and the Columbus Museum of Art (CMA), which culminates in a public exhibition. The work of the 2021 fellowship recipients will be on view next year at the Pizzuti Collection of the Columbus Museum of Art as part of Greater Columbus: The 2022 Greater Columbus Arts Council Visual Arts Awards Exhibition. Deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25, 2021.
Established in 1986, the fellowship recognizes outstanding visual artists within the community. In addition to a residency culminating in an exhibition, four artists also will receive a $10,000 fellowship award (doubled from previous years’ awards of $5,000). Visual Arts Fellowship recipients are also eligible to apply for the invitation-only Artist Exchange program, a two- to three-month residency in Dresden, Germany in future years. The fellowship program applications are evaluated by esteemed art professionals working outside Columbus in a blind jury process.
Artists must have been living in central Ohio for a minimum of one year to apply for the Fellowships and remain a resident for the grant period if selected. While undergraduate students are not eligible, artists may submit student work that is within the required timeframe. Based on the quality of applicants’ work created within the last three years, these awards are intended to assist artists in the creation of new work and the advancement of their careers. The recognition of individual creative work and artistic enterprise helps strengthen the Columbus area’s vibrant cultural community.
Access to the online application and 2021 guide is available through the Arts Council’s Individual Artist Fellowships page. Any questions should be directed to McKenzi Swinehart, grants and services manager, at (614) 221-8746 or mswinehart@gcac.org.
