COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Greater Columbus Arts Council (Arts Council) in collaboration with PromoWest Productions has announced the four artists selected to participate in the 2019 PromoWest and Columbus Makes Art exhibition. The selected artists’ work will be displayed on the south side of A&R Music Bar in the Arena District. Each artist will be paid a $500 honorarium by the Arts Council and will receive recognition on the installed work. The exhibition will go on view in May, and it will be up for one year.
The four winning artists are: Ty P. Carroll, Sara Castro, Darrek Robertson and Roger Williams.
Ty P. Carroll earned a bachelor of fine arts at The Ohio State University in art and technology with an emphasis on computer information science. His artistic style combines traditional skills of drawing and painting with digital manipulation to create a new hybrid art form he has termed “glitch drawing.”
Sara Castro is a Westerville-based artist who paints digitally and with watercolor, with a focus on creating art that empowers human hearts. Castro is also a musician and loves to combine music and visual art in meaningful ways.
Darrek Robertson is a nationally recognized professional photographer from Westerville who recently graduated from Columbus College of Art & Design’s industrial design BFA program. His photography credits include Columbus Business First, Catholic Social Services, Grange Insurance Company, Boy Scouts of America, COTA and The Ohio State University.
Roger Williams is a Columbus artist who works to embrace the present and future with new and invented original lyrics, all with a goal of raising Columbus’ national profile. He describes himself as a deconstructivist artist, and is known for his colorful murals throughout the city.
A review committee of community and Arena District business representatives selected 10 finalists on the criteria of originality, creative execution and general appeal, and the four artists chosen to participate in the exhibition were selected through an online public voting process.
