Arts Council Awards Six Artists in 2019 Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Greater Columbus Arts Council (Arts Council) selected six artists at the 2019 Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition to receive cash awards, in both the professional and amateur categories.

Professional Awards ($200):

  • Dzhen Zhong Duan (Dublin, 43017), oil, Fishing Village China
  • Kate Gorman (Westerville, 43081), ink and marker, Cerulean Warbler: Ohio Species of Special Concern
  • Magda Parasidis (Columbus, 43220), photography, The Block

Amateur Awards ($150):

  • David Chu (Columbus, 43235), photography, Mist
  • Elizabeth Downing (Hilliard, 43026), ceramics, Bird in a Bowl
  • Laura Simonian (Columbus, 43201), oil, Eye of the Storm

A total of 2,061 artworks from around the state were entered in the 2019 Fine Arts Competition, with 118 pieces accepted in the amateur category and 239 in the professional. This includes 65 pieces from 41 amateur artists and 140 pieces from 99 professional artists residing in Franklin County.

The Fine Arts Exhibition will be on display in the Cox Fine Arts Center on the Ohio State Fairgrounds through Aug. 4.
