The Greater Columbus Arts Council’s 2014 Community Arts Partnership Awards Nominations Now Open

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Greater Columbus Arts Council’s (Arts Council) 2014 Community Arts Partnership (CAP) awards will recognize the community’s important contributions to the arts including financial support, non-cash contributions, volunteer involvement and board participation.  Strong partnerships between businesses, community members and the arts stimulate economic growth, promote the city’s revitalization, encourage tourism and enhance Columbus’ cultural image.  The event, presented this year by PNC, will honor winners in six categories at a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 16 at COSI Columbus, 333 W. Broad Street.

Nominations are accepted online through Thursday, September 11, at gcac.org. Nominations may be submitted by businesses, organizations and individuals. Self nominations are not accepted.

Nomination categories are:

Arts Educator: An individual who has made a significant contribution to making arts education opportunities available to students K-12 within a school system or in after-school programs or activities.  This award is presented in partnership with the Ohio Alliance for Arts Education.

Emerging Arts Leader:  An individual 40 years of age or younger who has had a significant, positive effect in helping the arts in central Ohio flourish through leadership, innovation, creativity and/or investment.

Arts Partner: A civic, community or business leader who is a role model for long-term and exemplary support of the central Ohio arts and cultural community because of his or her significant contributions of time, effort and/or financial resources.

Large Business: For a business with more than 500 employees or more that has offered current, creative and innovative support to one or more arts organizations in greater Columbus throughout the past year.

Medium Business: For a business with 51-500 employees that has offered current, creative and innovative support to one or more arts organizations in greater Columbus throughout the past year.

Small Business: For a business with fewer than 50 employees that has offered current, creative and innovative support to one or more arts organizations in greater Columbus throughout the past year.

The Arts Council will announce the winners of the Arts Educator, Emerging Arts Leader and Arts Partner awards prior to the event; Large, Medium and Small Business award winners will be announced at the event.

Additionally, the Arts Council will present the Artistic Excellence Award of $10,000, given annually to an arts organization that has demonstrated innovation, risk and artistic excellence in a performance, exhibition or program. Nominees for the Artistic Excellence Award are chosen by the Arts Council staff and CAP board committee members, and the winner is chosen by the board and announced at the event.
